Quilca-Matarani Highway
Quilca-Matarani Highway
Quilca-Matarani Highway
The Quilca-Matarani Highway, located in a desert area in southern Peru, crosses several ravines that are susceptible to flooding during the rainy season. This condition requires the installation of 36″ diameter stormwater drainage culverts, over which fills up to 20 meters high are projected above the crest.
Additionally, the proximity to the sea imposes specific corrosion requirements, which directly influences the choice of conduit materials. To address both challenges—high fill loads and a harsh environment—the decision was made to install HDPE pipes with a corrugated exterior and smooth interior. This solution maintains a constant wall thickness even for high fill heights above the crest, unlike other traditional materials. Furthermore, its corrosion resistance ensures long-lasting and reliable performance, optimizing the lifespan of the hydraulic infrastructure under extreme conditions.
